An ancient problem, malaria infects an estimated 300 to 500 million people per year and kills over 2 million annually. Malaria claims the life of a child every 30 seconds and is the leading cause of death of African children under the age of five. But malaria is completely preventable and treatable! As Freedom from Hunger has shown in its Malaria Initiative, village women can be empowered to protect their families from this deadly disease. This summer, we will announce the findings of our impact study that documents how practical and sustainable solutions-when placed directly in the hands of women-can effectively fight malaria. You can join Freedom from Hunger in its efforts to fight malaria. We\'re looking for volunteers to write op/eds to their local paper on or around April 25, Africa Malaria Day, so we can spread the word on cost-effective solutions to this terrible disease. If you are interested in helping us, please contact Freedom from Hunger\'s Manager of Volunteers and Event Services, Amber Stott. Amber will provide you with a template for an op/ed. She can be reached at (530) 758-6200 ext. 20. Visit our website to learn more about Freedom from Hunger\'s Malaria Initiative Program: http://www.freefromhunger.org/programs/malaria.php Freedom from Hunger is proud of the way we manage our funds! We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If you would like to learn more about our finances, call us at (530) 758-6200 ext. 33.
